Believe it or not, many students are starting to think about where they will be living for the 2023-24 academic year. University Housing and Residential Life will be hosting an off-campus living fair on Friday, October 7th from 1-3pm at the Bell Tower with over 20 properties closest to campus.
If your student is considering living off campus, here are some important questions you can help them consider:
- Is the address within the Campus Safety patrol zone and near a Flight stop?
- How responsible and responsive is the landlord? This can include both safety features and things like trash and recycling bins. Some important questions to ask before signing a lease can be found here.
- How well do you know the other students you might live with next year? Many students are just starting to make friends. They should discuss things like study, sleeping, and cleaning habits as well as what the expectations are for having guests and getting to know their neighbors.
- How will your student and their potential roommates budget so that everyone is paying their fair share of costs?
Living in an off-campus property can be an enjoyable and developmental experience for students. But it is important that they not rush into a living situation that will become stressful. Please make sure that your student can utilize your life experiences as well as the campus and city resources to make the best decision possible.
We hope to see your student at the Fair!
