Information about Inclement Weather & Unscheduled Campus Closings

Posted over 3 years ago  in Temple NewsTemple News.

Please see the recent communication from Ken Kaiser, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

As we approach the potential for inclement winter weather, it is a good time to review the policies and procedures in the event of necessary class cancellations and/or campus closures.

When a decision is made to close a campus, cancel classes, or delay an opening, all students and employees can expect to receive an emergency notification via the TUalert system, by text and email. Make sure your mobile phone is registered to receive a TUalert by verifying your contact information in TUportal.

The Temple University homepage will be updated immediately following a decision to close, cancel or delay opening. The website is the most comprehensive means of getting the latest updates. Information can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.

SEPTA will provide information about unscheduled changes on their website.

Temple University's calendar is constructed with the expectation that academic and business operations will be carried out as scheduled, and every effort will be made to maintain the academic schedule. Faculty members should communicate any plans to conduct class remotely with students in a timely manner. Students should confirm the status of their classes with their instructors, as classes that can continue remotely may not be affected by campus closures.

Essential employees are required to report for duty and to perform their duties despite the notification of a weather-related closure. Employees should consult with their supervisors to determine whether they are deemed essential. The Medical School and Dental School have specific clinical requirements that may necessitate a different action than that taken by the university.

Every inclement weather event is an ever-evolving situation that requires close monitoring and planning. We will make every effort to communicate with you as soon as possible about any changes to campus operations as a result of inclement weather. However, it is important that you monitor TUalerts, Facebook, Twitter, and the university webpage for updates and develop alternate transportation plans if needed.
