The Career Center serves all Temple students to support career exploration, preparation for internship or job searches, connections with employers, learning about graduate school, and many other career development topics. We are here to help from the time you arrive on campus through your graduation, and beyond.

Here are the questions parents and family members frequently ask us:

When should students begin talking with the Career Center?

We hope to see students early and often throughout their Temple journey. Navigating career options and possibilities can be challenging. We work with students at the very start of their academic careers to explore industries and types of jobs. We also help students identify their career interests and strengths. As students grow, we see topics shift towards preparing a resume, learning how to search for internships, and how to navigate the workplace. Closer to graduation, we work with students on the full-time job search, graduate school application process, and understanding salary negotiation.

How can students set up an appointment with the Career Center?

Students can set up an appointment to meet with one of our career coaches using Handshake or by calling the office. New students will get an email about their free Handshake account once classes begin in their first semester. In addition to one-on-one meetings with career coaches, students can schedule appointments on Handshake for professional headshots to use on LinkedIn or for Career Nests, the quiet interview spaces in our office for virtual interviews.

What's the difference between the Career Center and career offices in some of the colleges and schools?
Many schools and colleges at Temple have dedicated career support in addition to the resources offered by the Career Center. We work closely with our career development partners across campus and offer complementary services to help support your student's needs and goals. Your student doesn't have to choose one office over the other. The Career Center also partners with offices related to student career preparation like Pre-professional Health Advising and Scholar Development and Fellowships Advising. Learn more HERE.

Does the Career Center manage on-campus employment? Where can students look for part-time work?
While we do not manage the Federal Work-Study award process or facilitate on-campus student employment, the Career Center can help students learn how to use resources like Handshake to search for roles off-campus. We encourage students and families to connect with Student Financial Services as the primary resource for federal work-study and on-campus employment questions HERE.
