The email below was sent to all residential students by University Housing and Residential Life on Thursday, March 12.
Temple University has decided to end in-person academic instruction on Friday, March 13, in order to implement a social distancing strategy to address the concerns surrounding the coronavirus. The health and safety of our community members is our highest priority. As a result, students in University Residence Halls are asked to vacate as soon as possible, and no later than 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21. If you have already left campus and need to check out, please contact your hall’s front desk as soon as possible. Contact information is available by selecting your hall on the UHRL Website.
If you have not yet left campus, please carefully read the following so you are informed and prepared for your move-out.
Housing Refunds:
- You will receive housing refunds on a prorated basis for the time between your move-out date and May 6, 2020.
- Check out with your hall’s front desk when you leave, so we can accurately calculate your refund.
Move-Out Process:
- Completely clear your room of all your belongings and ensure the room is clean prior to check out.
- Be sure that all dates on checkout forms are accurate. This will impact your refund.
- Express checkout instructions and envelopes are available at your front desk.
- Regular checkout is recommended if there are damages in your space, but please be advised that your space will not be reviewed until after March 21.
- Front Desks will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day. During these hours, check out at your front desk to ensure your refund is calculated accurately.
- Residents of Beech International Village, The Edge at Avenue North, and The Nest should call their respective building representatives using the Staff Duty Phone. The number for Beech is (215) 360-6596, the number for the Edge is (267) 403-0764, and the number for The Nest is (215) 280-3111.
- UHRL reserves the right to dispose of items left behind after you check out, or March 22, 2020 (whichever comes first). Items left behind may be discarded or destroyed immediately in accordance with health and safety requirements or best practices.
Housing Extension:
- Limited exemptions for extenuating circumstances will be considered for students requiring a Housing extension beyond March 21.
- Students requesting an extension may be required to relocate from your current housing assignment.
- If you are unable to leave campus before March 20, you must login to MyHousing via TUPortal, access your Academic Year 2019-2020 application, and submit a COVID-19 Request for Exemption to Stay.
- Housing extension requests are due by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2020. Any request submitted after this time will not be considered.
Exemptions may include:
