Temple University Hospital, located in North Philadelphia, has been ranked the most racially inclusive hospital in Pennsylvania and No. 13 most racially inclusive hospital in the U.S. by the Lown Institute, a nonpartisan health care think tank.

The Lown Institute Hospitals Index examines the racial inclusivity of more than 3,200 U.S. hospitals to assess their success at serving the people of color living in their communities. To create the rankings, the Lown Institute assessed how well the demographics of a hospital’s Medicare patients matched the demographics of the hospital’s surrounding communities. The Lown Institute used data from Medicare claims from 2018 and the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey from 2018.

“Temple University Hospital embraces its essential role as the leading healthcare provider in one of the nation’s most underserved communities,” said President and CEO of Temple University Health System and Temple Hospital Michael A. Young. “This recognition is a testament to the unyielding effort of all of those at Temple that work every day to provide the highest level of care to all.”
