The mission of the CPH Academic Advising unit is to create a partnership between advisors, students, and faculty, by intention and design. The unit strives to empower students to understand the meaning and purpose of higher education and foster their educational, personal and professional development toward academic success and lifelong learning.
Here are the questions parents and family members frequently ask us:
Who is my student's academic advisor?
Each major within the College of Public Health has its own professional advising staff housed within their respective departments. Students can find out their designated advisor by checking out the CPH Advising web page. Our Academic Advising staff is available to meet with currently enrolled undergraduate students individually and in small groups to assist with course planning and registration, ways to get involved in student and professional organizations, career discussions, academic policies, and more. Note that our academic advising team does not provide advice regarding tuition and financial services. Your student can contact the Bursar or Student Financial Services for assistance regarding those topics.
How does my student find out what courses to take and deadlines?
Your student can access important information, deadlines, and dates via the Registrar's website. As a parent, make sure to encourage them to: schedule an academic advising appointment with school/college advisor, check out the Undergraduate Bulletin for their program requirements, review their DARS- Degree Audit Reporting System, access their Advising Session Report, and meet with a faculty advisor to discuss career options within major.
How does the College of Public Health prepare my student for a career?
We often refer our students to the Career Center to help them get started with thinking about their journey after graduation. We also partner with the Office of Preprofessional Health Studies to help guide those students interested in pursuing a career in the health professions or completing prerequisites for graduate school programs.
What if my student wants to change majors?
If your student has an interest in changing majors within the College of Public Health, your student should reach out to the Academic Advisor for that major via email or they can set up an appointment. All CPH advisor contact information can be found on our CPH Advising web page HERE.
How can I help my student get engaged on campus?
Temple has hundreds of ways for students to get involved on campus. Clubs and organizations are a great way for your student to develop and further enhance their leadership skills and interests. Search for a Temple University Club or Organization via Owl Connect and learn more about student activities such as organizations, fraternities and sororities, service immersion programs, and student government.
