As you begin this new journey with your student, it is important to understand that when your student enrolls at Temple University they gain full oversight of their educational records.
As required by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, with certain exceptions, Temple University cannot disclose student educational records without the written consent of the student. Examples of educational records include grades, course schedules, disciplinary actions, and financial records.
We encourage you to have an open and honest conversation with your student about FERPA to gain a mutual understanding of the expectations you have of each other regarding your access to their educational records. Once a mutual understanding has been reached, your student can complete a FERPA Waiver and Proxy Access form in their TUportal.
FERPA WAIVER
Your student may consent to the release of information from their educational records to you or other appropriate persons by completing a FERPA Waiver online via Self-Service Banner in their TUportal. Students can make changes to FERPA Waiver permissions at any time.
PROXY ACCESS
Your student also has the opportunity to grant you access to certain components of their information in their TUportal. Proxy Access provides you with your own login to your student’s TUportal. Your student can grant you Proxy Access via Self-Service Banner in their TUportal after completing a FERPA Waiver. Note that you should never login to your student’s TUportal using their personal login information. Students can make changes to Proxy Access permissions at any time.
Further details about FERPA rights can be found in Temple University’s Policy Regarding Confidentiality of Student Records.
