Greetings Temple Parents and Guardians! With daylight decreasing, the anticipation of upcoming holidays, and finals right around the corner, this time of the semester can be especially stressful for your college student. In this newsletter, the WRC offers you some tips to stay connected with your students and support them through this bustling time.
The Wellness Resource Center is Temple University’s health promotion office; we strive to support members of the campus community in exploring wellness and creating a life that aligns with their values. We offer intentional learning opportunities to promote exploration and meaningful connection.
Wellness Tips for Supporting Your Student:
- Find moments of gratitude together
- The end of the calendar year can be a great time to practice and nurture a gratitude habit. Practicing gratitude improves overall wellness, boosts your mood and relationships, and can improve sleep quality. Take the time to connect with your student by modeling gratitude and providing a space to talk about what you are grateful for. Express gratitude for your students and what they are accomplishing in their lives. How to Practice Gratitude - Mindful
- Explore moments of mindfulness throughout the day
- Mindfulness is the practice of being in the present moment non-judgmentally which invites calm into your body. Practicing mindfulness can benefit your students in several ways such as: reducing stress and anxiety, fostering greater self-awareness, and improving their attention and focus. As your students find the balance between resting and preparing for finals during fall break, encourage them to practice mindful exercises. This can be a great tool for them to manage the stress that comes with the end of the semester.
- One mindfulness exercise that you can share with your student is Deep Breathing. Simply inhale through your nose, then exhale slowly focusing on each breath and the sensations it creates in your body. Seven Mindfulness Techniques for College Students | SUU
